Poolbeg Incinerator

Poolbeg Incinerator Project to be Debated at Oireachtas Environment Committee with Irish Waste Management Association 18 Jan 2010. The issues surrounding the construction of a waste incinerator at Poolbeg, Dublin will be debated with the Irish Waste Management Association at tomorrow’s (19th) meeting of the Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Heritage and Local Government at 3:30 pm in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House.
The Irish Waste Management Association has expressed its opposition to the project claiming it is too large, will cost jobs and that it is too expensive. The purpose of the meeting is to fully tease out these issues and examine the Irish Waste Management Association’s alternatives.
Committee Chairman, Sean Fleming TD said;“The waste incinerator has proved to be a highly controversial project. Opposing sides have made strong claims regarding the scale and size of the plant as it is currently envisaged, while concerns have also been raised about the potential cost to the taxpayer. The Committee is anxious to try and establish some facts surrounding this contentious issue so will be interested to hear what Irish Waste Management Association have to say.”
The Irish Waste Management Association is the trade association representing the private waste management industry in Ireland. It has 26 members representing approximately 95% of the private the waste management sector in Ireland. Its members comprise of those involved in waste collection, recycling, landfill and incineration. It is affiliated to IBEC.
