Mortgage Arrears
A new report which examines the high level of debt in Irish society, considers how best to protect those at risk of defaulting on mortgages and advises on how to manage high levels of personal debt will be launched by the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Family and Social Affairs, tomorrow, (16th) at 2pm in the AV Room of Leinster House.

The report charts the substantial rise in personal indebtedness in Ireland over the last decade due to the easy access of credit. It also addresses some of the significant issues for, and makes recommendations to assist those coping with high levels of debt. Some of the questions it deals with include:
What measures should be introduced to reduce house repossessions and mortgage defaulting?
What is best international practice in dealing with mortgage and personal debt management?
What changes can be introduced to prevent some of the reckless lending practices of recent years?
What can be done to ensure people are fully aware of their options and rights when coping with debt?
Report authors, Olywn Enright TD and Thomas Byrne TD will be in attendance at the launch and will be available for questions.
