Child Rape in Ireland

The HSE has been forced to admit that it has no idea how many children have died in its 'care' in recent years. The HSE has said that it is presently trying to establish how many children died while in their 'care'. The HSE has one of the most significant budgets in the Irish Republic and has responsibility for a wide range of Health Care and Child Protection areas. It is incredible that in 2010 the HSE which is charged with the majority of Child Protection areas has no idea how many children in its 'care' have died.

Last year we seen a high profile case where a child in the 'care' of the HSE was being regularly raped and was eventually killed by the man who was abusing her. That man is now serving ten years in jail. The amazing thing about this case was the fact that the HSE knew that the child was living in this man's house and indeed a social worker had meet with the man to inquire about the child's well being.

We live in a country where HSE staff have knowledge of persons who have committed child rape and other crimes against children yet this information is not passed onto the Gardai in the majority of cases. How can it be that people can continue to conceal the rape of children yet face no criminal sanction for that concealment.

The HSE has a great deal to answer for and perhaps when they have established how many children have died in their 'care' they could then go about establishing how many people have admitted to their staff that they have raped and sexually abused children and that information has not been passed onto the Gardai.
