Alan Dukes and John Bruton to be Latest Witnesses at Oireachtas European Affairs Committee

The Oireachtas sub-Committee which is examining how Ireland and the Oireachtas should most beneficially implement its new powers gained through the Lisbon Treaty will continue its deliberations today, at 9:30 am in Committee Room 3 of Leinster House.

Alan Dukes, former Director General of the Institute of International and European Affairs and John Bruton, former Taoiseach and ex EU ambassador to the US will attend the meeting.

The Committee has already met with a number of relevant individuals and will conclude its hearings in the coming weeks. Following this, it will recommend new approaches to advancing the discussion of European Affairs within the Oireachtas and outline how our parliament can effectively use the new entitlements guaranteed under the Lisbon Treaty.

Committee Chairperson, Lucinda Creighton TD said;
“John Bruton and Alan Dukes have a wide scope of experience at National, European and International level. The input and experience of such people will be extremely useful for the Committee when it comes to making its findings.

Their input, and that of others will be vital if we are to ensure that we achieve the best possible outcome for the country and make sure we fully take advantage of the new powers granted under Lisbon to the Oireachtas.”
