Former MEP, President of the European Parliament and current president of the European Movement International, Pat Cox will be among the witnesses at the second meeting of a new Oireachtas sub-Committee, tomorrow (5th).
Brendan Halligan, Chairman of the Institute of International and European Affairs (IIEA) and Gavin Barrett of UCD will also attend the meeting. This is the second meeting of this new sub-Committee which over the coming weeks will meet with a series of relevant people in order to consider how the Houses of the Oireachtas should implement the new entitlements it has gained through the provision of the Lisbon Treaty.
Committee Chairperson, Lucinda Creighton TD said;
“Pat Cox is one of the most respected and renowned European Parliamentarians of recent times. He has a broad spectrum of experience on a range of European issues and his insight is likely to be of huge benefit to this Committee when it comes to making recommendations on how the Oireachtas can best take advantage of its new authority.
The input of Pat Cox and others will be vital if we are to ensure that we achieve the best possible outcome for the country and make sure we fully take advantage of the new powers granted under Lisbon to the Oireachtas.”
