The security alert that began on the Keady Road out of Castleblaney in County Monaghan yesterday is continuing, it is believed that a beer keg with wires pertruding was spotted by a passer-by. Beer kegs have been used before by terrorists as they are easy to modify to use as bombs or road side landmines. They have also been used for elaborate hoaxs.
The PSNI have today arrested a 39 year old man in connection with the mortar attack on Keady in February of this year. It is known that the dissidents are developing new weaponary such as the Barrack Buster which was used by the PIRA.
The Dissidents are hoping to be able to return their campaign to England, but due to both Gardai and PSNI successes against their operations they have stepped up their security. The dissidents will try and use the holidaying public this summer, to get White Lillies into England in preparation for a series of attacks in the Autumn. White Lillies are persons who have no criminal record and are unlikely to be known to the security services. This has been done on a number of occassions before. Third level students sympathetic to the terrorists have traditionally been used for such operations, there are tens of thousands of students on the move in the summer time and so conditions are ripe to move people into position.
