Public Accounts Committee

Public Accounts Committee to Launch Findings on Investigations from Last Parliamentary Session


9th June 2010

The D il Committee on Public Accounts will tomorrow (10th) publish its concluding findings from the investigations it conducted arising from the issues contained in the 2007 Annual Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General. The Committee explored these matters in hearings from October 2008 to July 2009.

You are invited to attend, or send a representative, to the launch of the report tomorrow, (10thJune) at 12:00 pm in the AV Room of Leinster House.

Among topics in the report are;

Failings in the Department of Finance
The €118 million in tax write off by the Revenue Commissioners
More than 300 Garda cars in storage and laying unused for over a year
Over 1,000 members of the Defence forces still in receipt of a “border allowance.”
Massive cost overruns and abandonment of IT projects

The report will highlight a series of recommendations and key findings relating to each agency based an achieving better value for money and accountability from these bodies.

In attendance will be the Chairman of the Committee, Bernard Allen TD and other committee members who will be available for questions
