Minister for Health, Mary Harney TD and CEO of the HSE, Professor Brendan Drumm will appear at the Oireachtas Health Committee, tomorrow, 13th, at 2:30 pm in Committee Room 2 of Leinster House.
The meeting which will be Professor Drumm’s final appearance at the Committee before he leaves his position of CEO, is one of the regular briefings the Minister and the HSE CEO give to Committee members.
The meeting will provide an opportunity for the Committee to question the two individuals who are in charge of the agencies with principle responsibility for delivering the country’s health and social care services.
Some of the issues likely to come up for discussion at the meeting include;
The status of the adult Cystic Fibrosis unit in St Vincent’s Hospital
Concerns regarding reduction in respite care services
Recent report by Expert Group on Resource Allocation and Financing in the Health Sector
Issues surrounding the expenditure of a health service training fund
Investigations into death of children in the care of the State.
Chairman, of Committee on Health and Children, Se n O’Fearghail TD said;
“Matters surrounding the provision of health and social services have been extremely topical of late. We saw large protests last week regarding concerns about cutbacks in respite care, the proposed adult Cystic Fibrosis unit is still not in place and issues have been raised regarding how money for a health service training fund was spent.
Tomorrow’s meeting will allow the members of the committee to directly put these or any other issues they may have regarding the health service to those charged with its operation.”
Prior to this, the Committee will hear an update on Orthodontic Services and Dental Care for medical card holders at 10:30 am.
