Normally prisoners are released after they have had breakfast at 8.30am. However, due to the publicity surrounding Larry Murphy he is being released at this earlier time in order that he may, as he is legally entitled to do, avoid the media that may be waiting for his release. Larry Murphy will be taken from his cell at 5am. He will be escorted by an ACO (middle ranking prison officer) and two other prison officers to reception. In reception Larry Murphy will collect all his belongings and carry them to the front gate. Larry Murphy will then be signed out of the prison and from that point on the Irish Prison Service have no responsibility for Larry Murphy. Larry Murphy has been offered the opportunity to leave prison in a prison van and he will then be dropped of at a pre-arranged address, however, Larry has not accepted that offer. When Larry Murphy was sentenced there was no post-release supervision order made and so Larry has no obligations in relation to the Probation Service.







As far as the State is concerned Larry Murphy has served his sentence for the crimes with which he was charged (http://hubpages.com/hub/Why-Suspected-Serial-Killer-Will-Roam-Free-In-Ireland) and this is correct. While Larry Murphy is obliged to tell the Gardai where he is living within seven days after his release, Larry Murphy is legally allowed to tell the Gardai that he has no-fixed-abode and he can go about his business. If he has no-fixed-abode then he does not have to tell the Gardai if he moves from County to County.







The Probation Service in conjunction with others have offered Larry Murphy an apartment in North Dublin, however, at this point Larry Murphy has not agreed to live at that address. Even if Larry Murphy were to live at the address offered it is most likely that he will be hounded by the tabloids and forced to move. The most important thing at this point is to ensure community safety, the only way that can work is if Larry Murphy takes up a permanent address and is then monitored by the Gardai. However, my own honest opinion, and I know Larry Murphy, is that what ever Larry’s initial response to offers of help and advice, Larry has an intention to etch his name in the history books.
