RTE Management Snort at drug allegations -

RTE management Snort at the suggestion that they knew anything about Gerry Ryan’s drug habit.

However, is it really possible for an employee to be a serial drug user without his management noting his mood swings, dilated pupils and all the other traits that go with being a junkie?

RTE management may well snort at the suggestion that they had any clue about a junkie or junkies working on their premises, however, it is surely as much a crime that management did not know as it is that they did know.

Any employer who is not aware of drug abuse or drug abusers on their premises are guilty of serious neglect of duty to all of their employees who do not engage in criminal activity. The Health and Safety Act makes it very clear that employers have a clear duty to keep the work environment clear of those who could pose a danger to fellow workers, management or visitors.

Personally I have no interest in Gerry Ryan’s private life, however, if he took his habit to work then I am concerned that others may be continuing to pose a threat to staff, management or visitors to RTE. If someone has drugs in their system and they are travelling to work they are also a threat to public safety.

Perhaps it is time that random drug testing was introduced at all State funded organisations.
