Breaking News Michael Martin to lead Fianna Fail, a final head count by the Irish Observer shows that Michael Martin TD will win the Fianna Fail leadership by a clear margin.
Michael Martin TD will be declared the new leader of Fianna Fail at approximately 3pm today (RTE 1). Michael Martin TD had received the support of 32 Fianna Fail TDs in a recent push against Brian Cowen TD.
Cowen survived by 7 votes having made promises that he would later withdraw when John Gormley TD of the Green Party and junior coalition partners warned Cowen not to appoint Ministerial portfolios to his bagmen, who would have been in office for a few weeks before the General Election and from which they would have made monetary gain.
Cowen was out foxed by Gormley and now the Green Party have left the Government and taken their place on the opposition benches, something they should have done a long time ago.
