Serious questions are starting to emerge in relation to members of An Garda Siochana having Facebook accounts, not only in terms of the case stated below but in general. Garda officers are disclosing personal, work, family and other information on their facebook sites that could compromise themselves, fellow officers and family members.
The Garda Ombudsman Commission is investigating a complaint that a Garda had an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old girl.
The matter came to light earlier this year when the girl’s mother found a message on her daughter’s Facebook page from the garda, who is in his late 20s and from the girl’s home town.
She reported the matter to the local Gardaí who referred it to the Garda Ombudsman Commission.
The Commission has seized a computer belonging to the garda and it is understood that they have also interviewed him about his relationship with the girl.
He is currently suspended from the force following a complaint last year that he engaged in an inappropriate sexual act with another 15-year-old girl in another town where he is stationed.
