A Dublin man has appeared before the Special Criminal Court charged with membership of the IRA.
David Dodrill (30), of Plunkett Avenue, Finglas is charged with membership of an unlawful organisation within the State, namely the Irish Republican Army, otherwise Óglaigh na hÉireann, otherwise the IRA on July 13th.
He was arrested as part of a Garda investigation into the the activities of dissident republicans.
Det Padraic McManus, of Blackrock Garda station, told the court he formally arrested Mr Dodrill at Sweetman’s Avenue, Blackrock yesterday.
He said he explained him that he was being arrested because gardaí held a reasonable belief he was a member of an illegal organisation.
Det Gda McManus said Mr Dodrill, who appeared before the non-jury court dressed in a navy fleece and black jeans, made no reply when the charge was read over to him.
Presiding judge Mr Justice Paul Butler, sitting with Judge Alison Lindsay and Judge William Hamill, remanded the accused in custody to appear in front of the court on July 28th. He granted leave to apply for bail.
