David Osborne, 40, is also alleged to have possessed and incited someone else to take an indecent photograph of a child.
He faces a total of eight charges allegedly committed in Belfast on dates during 2008 and 2009.
During a preliminary enquiry hearing on Monday, Osborne, of Joanmount Park in the city, declined to say anything in response to the charges or call any witnesses.
He is accused of travelling to meet a child aged under 17 with whom he had previously communicated at least twice.
According to the charge before Belfast Magistrates Court the intention was to commit an act contrary to the Sexual Offences Act 2003.
Osborne is also alleged to have attempted to meet the child on two other occasions.
He faces three counts of possession of an indecent photograph of a child and two counts of inciting another person to take indecent pictures.
Deputy District Judge Philip Mateer QC granted a prosecution application to have Osborne returned for Crown Court trial on a date to be fixed.
The accused was released on continuing bail.
