William Alan Macaulay, from Ballynacree Drive in Balnamore, appeared in court in Coleraine on 3 August.
The 51-year-old is accused of making and possessing an indecent photograph or pseudo-photograph of children.
A spokesman for the Methodist Church has confirmed MacAuley has resigned as a minister and had not been chaplain at the jail since November last year.
"During the time of the investigation into the allegations against Mr Macauley the Methodist Church along with Mr Macauley has co-operated fully," the spokesman added.
Macaulay was bailed to re-appear before Coleraine Magistrates' Court later this month.
