White Collar Crime, New Legislation, Alan Shatter

Alan Shatter has moved quickly to introduce New legislation aimed at strengthening garda powers when investigating white-collar crime that legislation comes into effect today.

The Criminal Justice Act 2011 has been fast-tracked by the Government in response to difficulties faced by gardaí investigating complex cases.

Justice Minister Alan Shatter says this new legislation is an important step in ensuring that white-collar criminals are vigorously pursued.

The new legislation comes at a time when we await for the publication of the Mahon Tribunal report into political corruption, it is expected that Berty Ahern will be described as corrupt and a liar.
