Sean Gallagher backed by Meath and Leitrim Councils
The businessman received the backing of members of Meath and Leitrim Co Councils today.
Writing on his Twitter feed Mr Gallagher said he was "delighted" to have the first two formal nominations under his belt.
Meanwhile Mary Davis was today nominated by Sligo Co Council.
Ms Davis, managing director of Special Olympics Europe, was nominated by Independent Councillor Michael Clarke and the proposal got the backing of the majority of councillors at this afternoon's meeting. However, Ms Davis is not expected to poll well after supporting a public YES campaign for the Lisbon Treaty.
All of the Fine Gael members of the council abstained in the vote.
Last Friday, Ms Davis secured her first formal local authority nomination from Galway Co Council.
The candidates need the backing of four local authorities to get on the ballot paper.
The presidential election takes place on October 27.
