Should social welfare payments be cut in the forth-coming budget. There will always be those in society who will say Yes cut the social welfare, load of lay abouts, people will say "I have never taken social welfare in my life why should they get it", the reality is that if you have been a child in Ireland or you have had a child in Ireland then you have been in receipt of a social welfare payment (Child Benefit). Even the multi-millionaires continue to get their Social Welfare payment into their bank account each month, even the Tax Exiles get their Social Welfare payment into their bank accounts each month, so all of you who have lied to yourselves for so long may now bow your heads. Yes, you have taken from the Social Welfare pool even when you most certainly did not need it. Why, should old age pensioners and disabled people, now be punished for the sins of the corrupt Fianna Fail Government and its friends in the Banks and Building trade, why should children go hungry so that corrupt bankers can be retired on pensions valued at tens of millions?
Why should people who have served this country all their lives be punished so that former Government Ministers can continue to live as if the recession is the fault of everyone but them? The Fianna Fail Government and its policies directed at supporting Bankers and Speculators created this economic meltdown, the Fianna Fail Government had Ministers on combined domestic incomes of over 500,000 Euro per year in salaries and expenses. There should be cuts made immediately in the social welfare budget, those cuts should start with the 600 wasters known as Social Welfare Inspectors who do nothing only try to clean up their own mess. Behind the desk staff in the Social Welfare offices should be immediately put to work on helping people find training, education and work. Social Welfare recipients have each week to show ID in the post office and this is all on CCTV, the ritual of weekly signing must end as it is a farce that we can’t afford. These small changes would save money and help generate revenue; whereas mealy mouthed universal cuts simply take money out of the economy that is so badly needed.
If you need to feel good about your pathetic existence then direct your energy at corrupt Fianna Fail and the property speculators and criminals that they propped up for 14 years and leave the already brutalised and oppressed alone, you school yard bully.
