The brother of Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams has been remanded in custody after losing a legal bid to appeal against his extradition to the North on sex abuse charges.
Liam Adams is to be sent to a prison in Dublin to await transfer to Northern Ireland some time in the next fortnight, where he is expected to stand trial for 18 alleged offences against his daughter Aine Tyrell.
The High Court ruled today that it would not allow him appeal to the Supreme Court over an earlier judgment which ordered his extradition.
The 56-year-old, who denies the abuse allegations, was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison.
Mr Adams is wanted by the Police Service of Northern Ireland to stand trial in relation to 18 alleged offences against his daughter Ms Tyrell, who has waived her right to anonymity.
Mr Justice John Edwards ruled the defendant could not appeal the order to the Supreme Court as his barrister’s arguments had not been points of law or exceptional public importance.
He remanded Adams in custody for 15 days, when the extradition order will take effect and he will be handed over to the PSNI.
